Webscreen Named As Finalist In National IT Awards

Webscreen Technology, the Leeds based network security development company, has been named as finalist in the 2008 Network Computing Awards, the second major accolade for the company's innovative technology in as many months.

Webscreen's award winning technology is designed to protect business Web servers and networks from distributed denial of service attacks and ensuring Web sites stay active during busy trading periods. This is a growing problem for many businesses, particularly for online retailers as shopping online now accounts for 15% of all retail spending in the UK and can result in major financial losses as well as serious damage to the company reputation.

Network Computing is the leading sector publication and its annual awards are widely recognised as the pinnacle of success across the IT industry. Webscreen has been short listed for the "Network Management Product of the Year" alongside established industry names including Cisco, Ipswitch and Exinda. The recognition follows closely on the company's success at the British Computer Society Awards, in December, where it was named winner in the Information Security and Data Management category beating leading organisations such as BT and The Environment Agency and the London Stock Exchange to the title.

Webscreen's technology is currently protecting hundreds of commercial web sites across the world, representing combined revenues running into £billions. Customers include major high street retailers, online gaming companies, airlines, ticketing organisations and government departments. These are all sectors that are being increasingly targeted by organised cyber criminals who use DDoS to extort huge sums of money in return for stopping the attack.
